Specifications: The Sony MHC-EC79i Mini Hi-Fi is a three piece sound system that comes with an iPod dock. It consists of a central unit and two Speakers with built in sub-woofers. Each of the Speakers has 190 watts of power giving a total of 380 watts of audio power. This hi-fi system plays DVDs, VCDs, and CDs in a variety of formats. It has a 44.1kHz/24bit digital-to-analog converter and of course, a built in AM/FM tuner (saving up to 20 FM station presets and 10 AM radio presets). This model makes use of an external antenna. One of the biggest selling factor is its built in iPod dock.
Design: The Sony MHC-EC79i Mini Hi-Fi has a rather masculine design. The exterior of the device is in shades of black, gray and a tinge of silver shades. Each of the Speakers has two loudSpeakers that are covered by a thin mesh. Each of the speakers is painted with a ring of blue. The center of the player is dominated by a large, silver-colored volume control. Beneath it is the built-in iPod dock.
Features & Performance: The Sony MHC-EC79i Mini Hi-Fi is a great sound system for a small to medium sized room. Its powerful audio output (380 watts) could easily fill the room with rich high quality audio. The sound produced by this system was very good, with crisp sounds and a strong, defined bass. When the iPod is plugged into the dock, it charges it at the same time. You may even control the audio playback of your iPod by using the hi-fi remote when it is plugged in. There is also a built-in 3.5mm audio-in jack that allows you to plug in other music players or play music from your PC. This unit currently retails for around $160 each. The Sony Hi-fi unit makes a good choice for those who are looking for a hi-fi set that can literally rock the room with high quality audio.
